A young man traveling along a San Antonio highway lost his life in a gruesome Monday morning accident.
Police believe weather could have been a factor in the tragic series of events that led to the fatality.
They said a man in his late teens or early 20s was heading north on I-37between Fair Ave andCarolina Street when he pulled over and parked his vehicle on the highway at around 5 a.m.
According to investigators the SUVhe was driving was stolen. That was his first mistake. The second would cost him his life.
The driver got out of the vehicle and proceeded to run across the highway, over the concrete barrier and into the southbound lanes of I-37.
That's where he was struck by an Isuzu truck. The impact threw the young man over the truck and into the bed of the vehicle, investigators said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
It's unclear why the man ran across the roadway.
There was a related third accident in the southbound lanes of I-37. The southbound and northbound lanes were closed while police conducted their investigation. Crews have since cleared the scene.
The victim's identity has not been released.
