SANANTONIO - Federal immigration agents arrested more than 3100 across the countryin the largest immigration operation of its kindever.

The six-day sweep by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement netted 344 criminal immigrants in Texas, including 28 in San Antonio.

What we want the public to know is our officers are out there doing all they can to ensure the public s safety by removing aliens who have past criminal convictions, said Richard Rocha, a communication officer for ICE.

This nationwide operation, called Cross-Check , comes nearly a year after ICE announced it would be concentrating on deporting illegal immigrants with serious criminal histories that pose national security threats, rather than going afterjust any illegal alien.

We are using more of our resources to identify, arrest, and remove criminal aliens from the country, said Rocha.

Those arrested last week will go in front of an immigration judge where most face being removed from the country.
