A Virginia man says he lost 150 pounds in a year and a half - all because he finally started sleeping better.

He walks at his own leisurely pace. But if you would've known Tim Felton a year and a half ago, you could appreciate the mountain he has climbed. He takes out his license to show the size he left behind. That would be at 365 pounds.

Another photo he shows was taken During a cruise vacation splurge with his wife at his side - the same woman who used to worry about him every night.

TimWent to see a sleep neurologist, Dr. Dimi Barot, to do something about his snoring and blinding migraine headaches.

Barot tested his sleep and found Tim stopped breathing 66 times an hour. He immediately put him on a continuous positive air pressure machine, or a CPAP.

Because there isn't an exchange of air that would normally take place with breathing, oxygen levels do drop. So, when you splint the airway open, you restore normal oxygen levels without having to directly give oxygen, Barot says.

Tim began getting 98 percent more oxygen a night compared to 60 percent.

His headaches disappeared and to his shock...So did the weight.

I didn't notice until the weight started to drop off, cause I had started working out before coming here and trying to lose weight and it was very slow, Tim says. It was starting to accelerate a little bit and I started having more energy. That's the key, I believe.

Barot explains what happens.

The three fat hormones: Cortisol, leptin, and ghrelin, are dependent upon normal and healthy sleep, he says. So many people jump-start, for lack of a better word, their metabolism when they effectively are treated for sleep apnea.

Once those hormones are regulated you don't have the same carb cravings. Tim now works out six times a week, walking, weights, and yard work. Humility is no longer his only strength.

I try to be low key about it, but inside, yes, I'm very, very happy with myself, Tim beams.

And his wife? She says he's a new man.
