SAN ANTONIO -- Authorities have identified the driver who fatally struck a 6-year-old boy on Thursday night as 17-year-old Luis Landin.

He was booked into the Bexar County Jail early Friday morning on intoxication manslaughter charges.

San Antonio police said Landin was drunk when he lost control of his white pickup truck and hit 6-year-old Brandon Abrams in the 900 block of Autumn Sunrise. The boy was playing on his bike along the sidewalk.

Investigators said Landin claimed he dropped his phone and was picking it up when he slammed into the boy.

The child was near his home when the accident happened. His parent were on the scene and his mother was the first to perform CPR.

Abrams was flown by medical helicopter to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Landin was booked into the Bexar County Jail on $100,000 bond.

Although it has not been determined how fast Landin was driving, nearby residents said the speed limit is 30 mph. They said they have made several requests to have speed bumps installed.
