At Fort Sam Houston Independent School District students come and go as they parents are transferred and deployed around the world. Teachers in the district must constantly adjust to meet students where they are in their learning when they arrive.

Second Grade teacher Rebecca Mithofer embraces the challenge.

This is her eighteenth year teaching but only her second at Fort Sam houston Elementary School where there are unique challenges and rewards to teaching the children of our military.

There is a lot of mobility so our students are coming and going but they bring so many experiences that I've not seen in Texas. It's great to hear their different stories and perspectives, their sense of pride in our country, it's an awesome privilege, Mithofer said.

Her enthusiasm for learning is contagious.

She makes us work so hard and makes us know that we can do that, said Second grader Luke Beckham.

My goal for each chid is make them be as successful as they can and meet them where their needs are, said Mithofer.

She makes me feel good because she makes it much easier for school, said Second Grader Aniya Hopson.

We try to embrace the students as they come into the classroom and let them know they're part of our new family and wish the ones who leave the very best and celebrate their journey into new places and new friends they'll meet embracing the change, Mithofer explained.
