HOUSTON Many doctors and nurses in the Houston area are hearing far fetched myths from their patients about the Affordable Care Act.
Something about your wrist or putting some type of chip inside your skin so they could, like, track us and know everything about us, said Kathy Cavazos.
Cavazos was going in for her annual check-up.
We do have people who come in and have heard something kind of crazy, but in the back of their mind, they're believing it, asking us, asking their doctors, trying to get the right answers, said Randall Ellis, Legacy Community Health Services staff member.
The Affordable Care Act is a long and complicated piece of legislation, so of course, there's some confusion. But some of the stuff people believe about 'Obamacare' is pretty outrageous.
Take for example, the wild rumor that everybody will be implanted with microchips. In fact, there was a plan to register medical devices like artificial hips, but it was dropped from the final bill.
Then there's the story that everybody's health insurance benefits will be taxed. In fact, our W-2 forms will show how much our employers are paying for our health care, but it won't be taxed.
There's even a story that the Feds will dictate what you can and cannot eat.
Again, untrue, but chain restaurants will be required to reveal the calorie counts for regular items on their menus.
We receive a lot of tweets, a lot of Facebook posts, said KHOU 11 News Social Media Producer Doug Delony.
According to Delony, there is an easy way to check out these so-called facts.
of course, often you can take these facts and go to a website like Snopes.com and find out that many of them aren't true, Delony said.
