AUSTIN -- The latest episode of ABC s hit show Shark Tank has an Austin connection. Two popular local radio DJs invested tens of thousands of dollars in a quirky invention called the Game Face, which is a facial tattoo. This week they'll learn whether they stand to make or lose their investment.
On Shark Tank cut-throat business moguls have the potential to make or break a product.
On Friday, Jan. 4, Texan Doug Marshall will show his Game Face to the show's group of potential investors.
KLBJ FM disc jockeys, Dale Dudley and Bob Fonseca, are hoping Marshall's idea is a hit because they've got money on the line.
We joke and call it 'face sticker' 'cause it makes our friend very mad, Dudley said. Bob and I own four percent.
Four percent of nothing, Fonseca added.
Marshall is Dudley's best friend. Five years ago he convinced the pair to buy shares in The Game Face Company.
It was a pretty good chunk of change, Dudley said. We thought, 'Well this will be fun. We'll let it ride,' and it's been nothing but a frustration.
I was sold when he told me it had military application, because he said soldiers go out and sometimes they have to put camouflage on their face, so why not just put a camouflage sticker? Was it the Bulgarian Army that showed interest? Fonseca asked.
Never happened, Dudley said. The Bulgarian Army passed. They looked at it and passed.
Now Dudley and Bob are hoping the sharks don't eat Marshall alive and pass on his product, but they're not banking on it.
We don't have that kind of luck, Fonseca said.
Dudley and Bob will hold a Shark Tank watch party Friday at The Oasis Restaurant from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
