SANANTONIO -- North East Independent School District officials said an algebra teacher arrested over the weekend on charges of sexually assaulting a child will remain on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the district's investigation.
Adam Eannarino, 34, was arrested in College Station on Saturday while attending a professional development conference at Texas A&M University.
A spokesman for the university's police department told KENS 5 Eannarino was arrested inside Neeley Hall, a co-ed dormitory, without incident.
It had nothing to do with the district, he had no kids with him, NEISD spokeswoman Aubrey Chancellor said.
According to the district's website, Eannarino is an Algebra II instructor at Robert E. Lee's Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Academy.
Close toone hundred former and current Lee students have reached out to KENS 5 to say they are shocked by the arrest.
I feel like a deer in headlights right now omg, one student tweeted.
Are you being for real did this happen don't play around, tweeted another student.
According to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, a 12-year-old girl told relatives Eannarino began sexually assaulting her in April 2011, when she was 10 years old.
The accusation came while the girl was visiting family in Corona, California.
Authorities in Corona contacted the Bexar County Sheriff's Office in early May; the department then began its own investigation.
Eannarino is expected to be driven from College Station to San Antonio later this week.
Eannarino facesone count of continuous sexual assault of a child, a first degree felony. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
District officials said Eannarino passed a background check before being hired in 2011.
It's very shocking, it's upsetting to the community, to the district, to everyone involved, Chancellor added.
