SANANTONIO -- Police say a domestic disturbance turned deadly Monday night when a 25-year-old man shot and killed his girlfriend in the front yard of a home at 416 San Horacio Ave.
The house is in a neighborhood near Old US-90 W and General McMullen Drive.
San Antonio police said the victim's mother and three children witnessed the shooting.
The victim has been identified as Tammy Ramirez. She was 25.
Police Chief William McManus said the alleged shooter, Jonathon Garcia, fled to an apartment complex in the 5700 block of N. Knoll, where he eventually surrendered around 9 p.m.
Witnesses told police that Garcia and Ramirez had been arguing moments before he pulled out a gun and shot her once in the chest.
He showed up about the same time she did. That's when the argument occurred, that's when the shot was fired, McManus said.
A neighbor told KENS 5 she came outside after hearing the gunshot and saw the victim's mother holding her daughter. The victim's three children were crying nearby.
Police removed the children from inside the home around 8 p.m., using blankets and sheets to conceal their identities.
McManus told the media that the couple had a history of domestic issues but was did not provide any details about their history.
