San Antonio police defused an intense hotel guest who opened fire inside of a room andheld awoman against her will Thursday night.
The shooting happened at the Budgetel Inn and Suites in the 2600 block of Northeast Loop 410. SAPD arrived at the hotel before 10 p.m. Thursday for calls of a man who had barricaded himself inside of a room.
The man was holding 21-year-old Katrina Wallace hostage in a room on the property, SAPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Javier Salazar said.
Initially, it's believed she was here voluntarily but it became an involuntary situation, Salazar said.
He said the victim was being held at gunpoint. The man, 41-year-old Mario Cigarroa, was reportedly making threats. Police said Cigarroa opened fire.
Johnny Jones was in the room next to the armed man. He heard the gunfire.
He put two bullets holesout the back window, then shot one through the door, Jones said.
Jones said healsoheard yelling. However, after the gunfire, Jonesleft the room.
He was yelling at somebody, he said. I don't know if he was yelling at her or yelling to hear his own voice. He was pissed off about something.
SWAT and other special operations were called out by San Antonio police to defuse the situation. It took four hours before Cigarroa surrendered.
Just when officers thought the situation was over, police said Cigarroa tried to force his way back into the room. He was subdued with a Taser.
Investigators said Cigarroa is now facing a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
