BEXAR COUNTY -- The victim in a Tuesday morning kidnapping was identified as 21-year-old Yvette Ramos.

Ramos was shot as she tried to bolt from a car the suspect was driving her around in.

A Bexar County deputy then opened fire on a suspected kidnapper moments after the suspect gunned down Ramos as she tried to escape from his vehicle.

Paul Berry, a spokesman for the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, said the shooting evolved from a reported abduction early Tuesday morning in San Antonio. SAPDsaid two children were reportedly kidnapped from the 1300 block of Patricia but were dropped back off at some point.

With the help of San Antonio police, deputies were able to track the suspect to the area of Labus Road in Elmendorf -- about 10 miles southeast of downtown San Antonio.

A deputy on a motorcycle spotted the suspect's black vehicle in the 21600 block of Spanish Grant, Berry said, and approached cautiously.

The woman inside the vehicle tried to bolt from the car, Berry said, but was immediately shot by the man in the driver seat, prompting the deputy to draw his weapon and fire multiple shots.

Berry identified the deputy as Ramiro Sanchez, a 9-year veteran. Sanchez has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, a standard procedure in the sheriff's office.

Berry said the suspect died from a gunshot wound. The medical examiner will determine if the fatal shot was self-inflicted or from the deputy.

The woman victim was flown to a nearby hospital, where she was also pronounced dead.

It could've been much worse, and we are fortunate that the children are safe, Sgt. Javier Salazar with SAPD said.
