A program that provides free tax preparation kicked off Wednesday.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, or VITA, coordinates hundreds of volunteers to help working families with their taxes.
They help families who earn up to $55,000 a year recover available tax credits.
In fact, except for NYC, we are the largest program of this kind in the United States, says Richard Keith with the City of San Antonio. Last year, we helped 34,000 people to get their taxes done, returning more than $66 million back into the local economy.
