Twitter announced Friday that the site had been hacked.

On its blog, the Twitter security team reported that about 250,000 user accounts had been compromised. The hackers, they say, gained access to information like user names and email addresses.

The social media giant also announced its intention to work with federal law enforcement to find and prosecute the cyber criminals.
