SAN ANTONIO -- The city's bike sharing program B-cycle recently celebrated its first birthday and it received a handsome gift by way of a $200,000 private donation.

Cindi Snell, San Antonio Bike Share's program manager, says the gray bikes have been a big success with 1200 annual members. The program includes 23 bike stations around downtown with approximately 230 total bikes.

Snell said members are primarily downtown residents and that among membership advantages is that riders don't deal with the hassle of finding downtown parking.

Fiesta proved to be a particularly attractive time to use B-cycle as usage increased, while months like July and August are the slow times, Snell said.

It was a great way to enjoy Fiesta, Snell said.

Ken and Kim Ciolli were announced as the private donors at Tuesday's press conference. Ciolli said he wants the bike share program to thrive in a city like San Antonio because he believes it will promote a more active lifestyle.

May is National Bike Month.
