KENS 5 will be the official TV partner for the University of Texas at San Antonio.
The station will serve UTSA fans with complete coverage, contests and giveaways. The partnership coincides with the university's inaugural football season.
"We are very pleased and very happy to be a part of UTSA's inaugural football season," said Bob McGann, KENS 5 president and general manager. "We look forward spreading support and excitement for all of Roadrunners athletics."
UTSA kicks off its 10-game football season Sept. 3 inside the Alamodome against Northeastern (Okla.) State.
Head football coach Larry Coker said the partnership will help provide much needed publicity to his new team.
"Let’s face it, we’re all living on a vision right now," he said. "We have recruits on a vision, coaches on a vision. But as people see this, the vision will become a reality”
UTSA athletic director Lynn Hickey also stressed the importance of publicity.
“September 3rd is going to be a day in history," she said. "And we’re trying to get the word out and we want to pack the dome on that first day.”
“It’s time to ramp it up and get the message out and get tickets sold," Coker said. "And to have KENS 5 in our corner is going to help us a lot.”
