Texans preseason loss dampens fans excitement

HOUSTON – After a very long off-season for Houston Texans fans, their pent up excitement was quickly shattered by whistles over the weekend.

Penalty after penalty and poor play after poor play had Texans fans thinking they had traveled back in time.

"Heart wrenching to say the least," said fan Nick Placker.

"After this weekend, it just brings back memories, bad ones," said fan Roell Chapas.

The 32-0 loss to the Arizona Cardinals kept a long streak alive.

"It's a little disappointing we didn't score," said Chapas.

But this is not one of those streaks to be proud of. The Texans haven't won a game since Sept. 15 of last year.

"I didn't realize it was that long," said Chapas.

And this weekend's pre-season opener didn't help boost any confidence that they'll be winning anytime soon.

"They look sloppy," said Chapas. "You worry a little bit."

"It wasn't very good," said Linda Brownlee. "There's a new coach, new players, a lot to work out."

And if you think those fans were tough, Twitter was even worse. The hashtag #Texans was trending over the weekend and not in a good way.

Fans even suggested the Texans Cheerleaders would have better luck on the field. And to make matters worse, over in Detroit, the quarterback the Texans passed up on was dazzling fans on the field.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel didn't score a touchdown, but he didn't throw two interceptions either. It's a better showing than Texans signal-caller Ryan Fitzpatrick.

"He's not on our team, got to play with what we have," said Chapas.

Texans fans KHOU 11 News talked to say Manziel looked good, but he's still not a good fit for Houston.

They're still backing the Texans' No. 1 overall draft pick, outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney, and hope the rest of the team works out all the kinks before the Texans take the field again.

"If you start at the bottom, you can only go up," said Placker.

The Texans will next host the Atlanta Falcons in their preseason home opener Saturday night at NRG Stadium.
