HOUSTON – Thousands lined up early to see the Houston Texans first official day of practice on Saturday.
"Got out here early, especially early, about 5:30. Still about a thousand people here already. Heard they camped out about half the night," said Donnie, aka "Knucklehead."
Some fans were in line at NRG Park as early as 1 a.m. for free tickets to see the team practice. There are no more tickets available.
One man drove all the way in from Arlington—that's Dallas Cowboys territory.
"I'm (functioning on) only an hour of sleep right now," said Joseph Gonzales. "I came straight from work. Drove all the way over here."
Fans seemed most excited about seeing No. 80, wide receiver Andre Johnson. He has returned to the fold after missing voluntary workouts and mandatory mini-camp.
"Yes, I'm excited that he's coming back. That's awesome. That's great news for the team," one fan said.
"Oh, it's so great. He just put the icing on the cake when he came back," said a fan named Brenda whose birthday is Saturday.
Many fans have high expectations this year. The team has a new starting quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick, who went to Harvard, and the No. 1 overall draft pick, Jadeveon Clowney, joining fan favorite J.J. Watt on defense.
