Reports: Spurs G Parker to rehab with G-League in Austin

ESPN is reporting that San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker could be close to returning to the basketball court.

Before he rejoins the team, the Spurs will send Parker to their G-League affiliate in Austin for a rehabilitation assignment, according to ESPN reporter Mark Spears.

Parker ruptured his quad in the second game of last season’s Western Conference Semifinals against the Houston Rockets. Earlier this week, the team cleared the guard for full-contact drills. The Spurs are expected to announce the assignment Wednesday afternoon.

Parker has stated in the past that he expected to return in January, but progress indicates that he could join the team earlier. Second-year point guard Dejounte Murray has started in his place and has averaged 13.3. points, 9.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists.

Parker has been a starter on the Spurs since the team drafted him in 2001. The 16-year veteran is a 6-time All-Star and a 4-time NBA champion, winning the NBA Finals MVP in 2007.
