Free agent Simmons signs three-year deal with Orlando Magic

As first reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, San Antonio Spurs free agent Jonathon Simmons has signed a three-year contract with the Orlando Magic.

The terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed.

Earlier this week, the Spurs renounced Simmons's rights as a restricted free agent, allowing him to negotiate with other teams as a full free agent without having to wait to see if the Spurs would match the offer.

Simmons was a one-man Cinderella story. As an undrafted free agent out of the University of Houston, Simmons paid for a tryout with the Spurs and made the D-League team before being called up to the main roster less than a year later.

While the advanced statistics showed that Simmons may not have been worth what he wanted from the Spurs, he became a fan favorite for his explosive offense and defense.

He particularly shined in the playoffs, averaging more than 15 points per game against the Golden State Warriors and more than 13 points per game against the Houston Rockets.
