The Silver and Black (61-21) and Grizzlies (43-39) enter the postseason as the No. 2 and No. 7 seeds, respectively, in the Western Conference. Both lost their regular-season finales Wednesday night, the Spurs falling at Utah 101-97 and the Grizzlies losing at home to Dallas 100-93.

San Antonio and Memphis had the same seeds last year when the Silver and Black swept the injury-depleted Grizzlies in the first round.

This year marks the fifth time that the Spurs and Grizzlies will meet in the postseason, with all but one of the previous series coming in the first round. The teams have clashed in the playoffs three times in the previous six seasons.

The Spurs are 3-1 against Memphis in playoff series, recording sweeps every time they've eliminated the Grizzlies. The teams squared off in the postseason for the first time in 2004.

The eighth-seeded Grizzlies upset the top-seeded Silver and Black in the first round in 2011, ending the series in six games. But the Silver and Black turned the tables two years later, sweeping Memphis in the 2013 Western Conference finals.

San Antonio and Memphis split their four-game season series, with the home team winning each time. The Spurs beat the Grizzlies 95-89 in overtime in their most recent meeting on April 4 at the AT&T Center. Kawhi Leonard scored 32 points to lead the Silver and Black.

Memphis beat the Spurs 89-74 on Feb. 6 and 104-96 on March 18, before the Silver and Black won the third meeting on March 23. The Grizzlies’ first win in the season series came in the first game of the Spurs’ annual rodeo road trip. The teams met three times in 18 days in the last month of the season.
