KENS 5 H.S. FOOTBALL RANKINGS: No. 3 Smithson Valley, No. 4 Clemens clash this week

SAN ANTONIO - Off to their best start since 2013, the Smithson Valley Rangers face their biggest test to date this season when they host Clemens on Friday night.

Smithson Valley and Clemens, No. 3 and No. 4 respectively, in the KENS 5 area Class 6A rankings, are tied with Judson for first place in the District 27-6A race. All three teams are 6-0 overall and 3-0 in league play.

Clemens hosts Judson on Oct. 27, a week from Friday, and Smithson Valley plays at Judson on Nov. 3.

Smithson Valley beat Clemens 45-21 last year but the Buffaloes won a 57-56 thriller in 2015. Clemens leads the series 12-5, but the Rangers have won four of the last five games.

Clemens won the first nine games of the series, which began in 1986. Smithson Valley is 5-3 against the Buffs since then.

Judson remains No. 1 in the KENS 5 Class 6A rankings. The Rockets play Judson ISD rival Wagner in the Hammer Bowl on Friday night at Rutledge Stadium. Judson is also No. 2 in the Associated Press 6A state poll, and No. 18 in the USA Today Super 25 national rankings.

O’Connor (6-0) and Reagan (5-1) are the other teams in the top five of the KENS 5 Class 6A rankings.

Navarro (7-0) remains No. 1 in the Sub-6A rankings. The Panthers, who have a bye this week, beat Llano 21-7 in their District 13-4A Division I opener last Friday. Boerne (7-0), Pleasanton (6-0), Kerrville Tivy (4-2) and Alamo Heights (3-3) round out the Sub-6A top five.
