SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas at San Antonio has announced the start of a new Rowdy Rally tradition for its second-year football team.
According to a press release, the university will give the campus a shot of school spirit on Tuesdays before every home game, passing out game week flags, banners and other UTSA fan fare.
Students and fans -- decked out in blue and orange -- will then swarm the campus on Fridays. They will be taught a new UTSA cheer every week to take with them to the Alamodome.
At the rally, Rowdy the Roadrunner will charge through the Paseo followed by the UTSA Marching Band. The football team will then parade to the buses to go downtown for the game.
During its inaugural 2011 football season, the Roadrunners set an NCAA startup program record by drawing 56,743 fans to the Alamodome for its first game. In their second season this year, the university hopes to keep the football fever alive.
The first ever Rowdy Rally will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday. The team plays A&M Commerce on Saturday at 1 p.m.
