SAN ANTONIO -- Spurs general manager R.C. Buford was arrested Friday night and charged with driving while intoxicated and open container after crashing his car.
A spokesperson for the Spurs confirmed in a statement that Buford was involved in a single-car accident Friday night in San Antonio. The statement explains that Buford is diabetic and that the crash "was precipitated by a severe low blood sugar reaction."
A police officer then responded to the scene and arrested Buford on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and open container.
“I take great pride in being a positive member of our community and deeply regret this incident,” Buford was quoted saying. “I apologize to our community, our fans and the entire Spurs family.”
According to court documents, Buford was booked into Bexar County Jail at 3:38 a.m. Saturday. He was released on a $2,500 bond.
Buford was not injured, according to the statement.
