(AP) — California's star tailback Jahvid Best sustained his second concussion in eight days and was carted off the field Saturday night and taken to the emergency room after he landed on the back of his head when he leapt more than 5 feet in the air and flipped over a defender to score a touchdown in the 23rd-ranked Bears' 31-14 loss to Oregon State. A Cal spokesman says Best, one of the most dynamic running backs in the nation, is being kept overnight in the hospital for tests and observation.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Dan Persa threw a touchdown pass and Marshall Thomas recovered a fumble for another touchdown, and Northwestern snapped No. 8 Iowa's 13-game winning streak with a 17-10 victory for its first win over a ranked team in five years. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Disgruntled Memphis guard Allen Iverson returned to his home in Atlanta after receiving permission to leave the team to attend to personal business. Team owner Michael Heisley gave the four-time NBA scoring leader permission to skip the Grizzlies' game Saturday night against the L.A. Clippers.
