So Saturday night, Manu Ginobilli swiped at a bat, knocked it from the air, picked it up and gave it to one of the ushers.
Conspiracy theorists said it was a Halloween stunt. "How could the Coyote have gotten the Batman costume and net so quickly?"
My retort: why would the Spurs risk the liability of releasing a animal into the arena? What if the bat flew at someone and that person's reaction made them fall or something? Spurs on the hook for millions of $$ for a stunt. I doubt that.
I have been covering the Spurs at that arena since it opened, this is the third bat that has disrupted the game. Remember the last time they had to catch it in a towel after many failed attempts. It even buzzed me a few times!
"Manu killed the Bat!" Maybe but do you really think the Spurs would subject him to the grueling vaccination routine if it were dead. If it were dead then they could simply send it out, have it tested and save the man 16 shots! I think the bat survived and flew away.
PETA is up in arms! Ok, c'mon! I understand that you want animals treated better but seriously? I understand that they have a message and an ideal to adhere too, but if the bat is alive why all the hubub? Just because there was an incident involving an animal do you really have to get involved?
I'm not trying to be insensitive to your beliefs but its kinda like when politicians comment just for the sake of the publicity generated.
Anyway, live long and prosper Mr. Bat. Try not to spring a leak Manu and Mr. Usher!
