AUSTIN -- The UT soccer player left critically injured by a hit-and-run earlier this month is awake and breathing on her own, according to a website set up by her family.
Kylie Doniakwas critically injured in a hit-and-run Feb. 3.
Doniak is now sitting up and doing her best to communicate through her facial expressions and arm movements.
Doniak was in a medically induced coma after suffering a brain injury, punctured lung, broken ribs and broken bones in her leg.
There are two ways to help out Doniak's family cover the medical bills:
- Wednesday, all Austin Chili's restaurants will donated 15 percent of your bill if you tell them it's for Kylie.
- Donations can also be made at any area Wells Fargo banks
Nicholas Colunga, 22, was charged in the crash. Police said he ran a red light at San Jacinto Boulevard and Eighth Street, hitting Doniak and another woman as they walked through the crosswalk.
Colunga is charged with failure to stop and render aid and intoxication assault.
