SAN ANTONIO -- It’s been almost a month since a tragic accident took the life of 25-year-old Erick Arteaga, but the family of the victim is still seeking answers as to how it all happened.

“He was great, he was a magnificent person, so full of life and he was content with himself,” said Karina Arteaga, Erick’s sister.

Police said  Erick lost control of his vehicle while driving down South West Military Drive the evening of May 16. So far it appears to be a case of racing and Arteaga’s vehicle flew over a bridge and fell close to 40 feet, according to investigators.

There were some witnesses, but the other vehicle involved fled the scene.

“The other driver involved actually stopped and looked and fled the scene. Failing to render any sort of aid,” SAPD officer Matt Porter said.

Police eventually found the other car and its owner, but still no arrests have been made. Now,  Erick’s family is left wondering if it was racing or something else that caused the crash.

“Accidents do happen, I completely understand that, we just don’t know if it was an accident, if it was racing, if it was road rage, anything else, we just have no idea,” Arteaga said.

Police confirm the investigation continues and charges against the suspect could change, but until that driver is found this family is still left wondering.

“I would hope this person, would really hope, that he or she would come forward and give us that closure,” Arteaga said.

Anyone with information on the accident is urged to call police.
