Bogus Benjamins are getting past even bank tellers. Kerr County is on the hunt for the counterfeit cash suspects. Deputies say the suspects are turning real bills into fake ones.

Instead of printing up fake cash, suspected counterfeiters are altering real greenbacks to fool the naked eye. Apparently it's also fooling the best technology.

"Something wasn't quite right with them," said Sheriff Rusty Hierholzer, Kerr County Sheriff's Office. "They're taking a real five and changing it into a hundred," he said.

A closer look and you can see a different dead president is on each one. Instead of Franklin, Lincoln's hologram still appears on the phony money. That's something deputies say a little bleach and ink couldn't disguise.

Last weekend, when a cashier tested it with her counterfeit pen, the altered five dollar bill registered as real currency.

Deputies say the funny money even fooled a bank teller. "The bank teller swiped it with a pen and told us oh this is a good bill," said Hierholzer.

The sheriff says they have some solid leads on who has been making a $95 profit with every exchange. The Secret Service is assisting.
