SAN ANTONIO -- Brown and murky water is pouring out of some faucets in Poteet, and residents they say it's not the first time.

A KENS 5 viewer shared startling images of the water that came from their backyard hose that they use to fill their children's pool.

However, the city's public works department says the water is perfectly safe to drink and bathe in, and that the brown murky color is due to old plumbing pipes.

It wasn't long ago when the entire town, which is less than 3,500 residents, experienced similar problems after a water pump to the city's only active well broke down, cutting off water to almost the entire community for more than a day.

The city has applied for a federal grant to replace the current water system, however, officials said they won't know if the funding will be approved for several more months.
