Drug testing kits are helping officers identify illegal substances being passed around between students, but the development of synthetic marijuana may be making things harder for police.

Investigators say K2, Spice, and other types of synthetic marijuana are all relatively new and drug testing technology hasn't had a change to catch up.

As a result, school district police officers are having to send the drug off and wait for lab test results.

Northside ISD police say they see about one or two cases involving synthetic marijuana a month. They say field testing kits would really help out with those investigations.
