SAN ANTONIO -- Newly released numbers show that only a handful of Fiesta goers took advantage of TxDOT's taxi voucher program.
TxDOT budgeted almost $70,000 for the cab voucher program for Fiesta 2012, but less than half of the money was utilized.
Two companies, SA Taxi and Yellow Cab, were contracted to provide Fiesta goers rides home with vouchers worth $20 off the fare. However, since the taxi drivers are contracted independently, only about 50 percent took part in the program.
It all goes back to April of 2011, when the program was first launched. Many of those taxi drivers were never reimbursed.
The new numbers from 2012 show that only about a third of TxDOT vouchers were used during Fiesta this year, and that there is a $50,000 surplus from the vouchers left over.
