One place you can regularly find eleven-year-old Jose is on the basketball court.
"I like paying basket ball. It's a good sport," says the dark-haired boy with a soft spoken voice.
He spends time there working on his jump shots, corner shots and even perfecting some fancy spin moves. At just 4-feet 9-inches tall, Jose seemed like a good challenge for me to take on with my limited skills.
"Let's see if I can get past you, OK?" I egg him on.
But on my first attempt at moving around Jose, the little guy tripped me, or maybe I tripped myself. Either way, he schooled me easily.
His basketball inspiration? "It's an old player, Michael Jordan." He adds that he used to have some "Jordan" tennis shoes.
Jose loves sports, playing outside, and airplanes. There is only one thing he would love more. "Be adopted. [I'd] like to be adopted," he says, and he describes the kind of family he would one day love to have.
"A mom, and a dad, and a dog; or a mom, dad, kids and a dog," says the soon to be fifth grader.
For now, he stays busy and happy playing sports every chance he gets.
