FRIO COUNTY -- Two people are dead following a fatal accident involving three 18-wheelers.

Authorities said a couple was driving an 18-wheeler headed down East Highway 85 between Dilley and Charlotte. The driver didn't stop or brake before the approaching intersection causing a collision with another 18-wheeler.

The impact of the collision pushed the second 18-wheeler into a third 18-wheeler it was trailing.

Authorities said the truck caught fire upon impact and they were unable to escape the cabin. The couple was pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers of the other two trucks were airlifted to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

"We've worked a lot of wrecks in this intersection and again, people aren't stopping at stop signs," said Texas DPS Sergeant Tony Ross.
