SAN ANTONIO -- Dozens of workers at a local restaurant say they're still owned thousands of dollars after the restaurant quickly closed down.

The former employees waited outside El Papalote Taco & Grill at Loop 1604 and Blanco Road on Thursday night for their final paychecks. Some employees said they waited for up to seven hours.

"We just showed up. Everything was closed," Ruben Barragan said.

The workers were left with little information other than a notice that was posted on the restaurant's door on Tuesday.

Calls to the manager's cell phone came up useless. His phone service had already been disconnected.

"They don't even wanna answer their phone," Barragan said.

Speaking on behalf of the workers, Barragan said some of the kitchen staff hasn't been paid in months. And if they finally do get the paychecks they're owed, Barragan said everyone is afraid the checks will bounce.
