Lara Prevost wins ExCEL Award in Alamo Heights Independent School District In Lara Prevost's Second Grade class at Cambridge Elementary School, praise and positive comments fly about the classroom from Ms. Prevost. "I love how everybody is sitting like second graders in their chairs. I just love it." Thank you Robert for showing integrity." "I like how you're waiting." She motivates her students with constant encouragement and by having students recognize one another with a creative variety of cheers. "Let's raise the roof for Steven," Prevost says leading students in a cheer after a student reads his journal. "I want to create a positive learning environment where they feel supported no matter what. They are all different learners and my goal is to make learning fun for each and every one of them," says Prevost. "I like sharing our journals like we did right now," said second grader Mateo Melgar. "I like when we get up to shake the wiggles out," said fellow second grader Sophie Greehey. Prevost engages her students with a variety of activities including shaking out the wiggles and singing instructions. "When I sing it immediately gets their attention. They love the funny voices i can sing really low or really high an they sing back to me. Then I find them around the room when they are working independently singing to each other and it is incredibly rewarding," said Prevost. "I love every minute. We have our moments but I love every minute!" said Prevost who is beginning her tenth year in the classroom. As she hugs each student, it is clear the feeling is shared by her students.
