A big celebration was enjoyed at Randolph Elementary School this week.
The entire student body cheered for Catherine Rogers, the second grade teacher who was chosen for the KENS 5 SACU Golden Apple ExCEL Award. Students then serenaded her as others presented her with flowers. This is a teacher who embraces the challenges of teaching the children of our military.
There's a lot of love in Catherine Roger's second grade classroom on Valentine's Day and year round.
"I love kids. I love affecting their lives. Developing the whole child both socially and emotionally are incredibly important," said Ms.Rogers
To do that Ms. Rogers works well the normal school day. beyond nights and weekends
"I love going to their baseball games, football games, " she said.
"She came to my birthday party and I had a really good time with her," said eight year old Joshua Garcia.
"She went to my dance recital but she had a flat tire so we're sending her a DVD so she can watch it," said second grader Macey Vanvleck.
"At a military school you may see them for half a year and they're gone or a full year and then they move. So the one year you have with them is the year that you get to develop your relationship with them. Here the one precious year you get with them is the one you need to cherish and take advantage of," Ms. Rogers said.
"She makes me feel awesome," said second grader Annoosh Gureshi.
"Hugs are so important. It's a good way to start the day, a good way to end the day," said Ms. Rogers as children crowd around her for a hug.
"Let's hope we all don't fall over like we have before," laughed the second teacher.
It's clear these students are given hugs and love they will carry with them around the world.
