Brian New

Investigative Reporter

Award-winning investigative reporter Brian New joined the KENS 5 News Team in 2007. Since joining the I-Team, his investigations have exposed corruption, uncovered government waste, and led to changes in public policy.

His 2009 Emmy award-winning investigative series, “Stranded at the Pump”, exposed the failure of gas stations to provide service to disabled drivers and led to better compliance of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Along with an Emmy, the investigation was honored with a Houston Press Club Lone Star Award and the Texas Bar Association’s Gavel Award.

This is just one of many stories investigated by Brian that has made a real difference in the lives of Texans.

Brian has been fortunate to be honored with numerous awards over his career. He was named by the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters “Best Reporter” in 2009-‘10 and 2010-‘11. Brian has won three regional Emmy, five Associated Press Awards, and other regional and state honors.

Brian graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in broadcast journalism. Prior to joining KENS 5, he worked as a reporter / anchor at KTWO (Cheyenne, WY), KVII (Amarillo) and at WOWT (Omaha, NE).

Born and raised in Denver, Brian is happy to make his home with his wife, Rachel, here in San Antonio. The couple enjoys running, working-out, and taking advantage of San Antonio’s wonderful Mexican restaurants.

Some of the best I-Team stories come from viewer tips, so please e-mail Brian at bnew@kens5.com if you have a story you would like him to investigate.
