ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast (AP) — The International Criminal Court says Ivory Coast authorities are cooperating with investigations, even as the court begins probing crimes carried out by both sides in 2010 postelection violence.
Deputy Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda said Tuesday that investigators from The Hague-based court visited the country's west two weeks ago "just to send a message that we are continuing to investigate all sides."
The United Nations estimates at least 3,000 people were killed after ex-President Laurent Gbagbo refused to accept defeat in the 2010 runoff.
Although Gbagbo has already been extradited to The Hague, human rights groups have criticized the ICC for only prosecuting one side of the conflict.
The army backing current President Alassane Ouattara is also accused of massacres.
