SAN ANTONIO - SAN ANTONIO -- A Northside ISD school received a threat on social media early Monday morning that someone was going to show up at the school, and the post had the hashtag "clown gang."
"There was a generic posting that referenced that particular campus and it was brought to the attention of the campus principal. He immediately notified Northside police and the campus officer and campus administrators, and together, the campus police officer and campus administrators are investigating as thoroughly as they can to see the origin of the post," said Barry Perez, a spokesperson from Northside ISD.
There have been several sightings of clowns in the San Antonio area in recent days. The San Antonio Police Department said that they're not too worried about the clown issue but that if people feel threatened by a clown, they should definitely call the police.
Schools in Houston and Corpus Christi have sent out emails to parents about the clown threats on social media. Police in Waco are investigating a Facebook threat from a clown against two high schools, triggering campus lockdowns.
Dallas police have responded to a few phone calls about clowns and posted on their Facebook page that they won't have any more updates unless more clowns are spotted tonight.
KENS 5 also found groups of clowns on social media claiming that they are going to show up at various places around San Antonio. So as not to encourage the activity, KENS 5 will not publish or broadcast those locations.
