Victim ID'd in deadly I-35 motorcycle crash

SAN ANTONIO -- Police said Richard Gutierrez, 33, died in a motorcycle crash near downtown early Saturday morning.

According to the San Antonio Police Department, Gutierrez's body was found in the parking lot at Guadalupe Street and southbound I-35 with a motorcycle helmet on around 9:45 a.m.

However, there was reportedly no motorcycle found in the immediate area.

Firefighters who heard the call then told authorities they were dispatched to a motorcycle fire several hours earlier around 12:30 a.m. on the lower level of I-35 north of Alamo Street.

They were not able to find the driver of the motorcycle at that time.

Police said investigators believe Gutierrez was the victim of the earlier crash because a piece of a motorcycle jacket attached to a highway reflector on I-35 matched the jacket he was wearing.

A witness had also called police to report they saw a motorcycle crash into the wall at a high rate of speed on southbound I-35, according to police.
