HOUSTON – Texas Southern University has suspended its band as it investigates a reported hazing incident, school officials said.

The incident was reported to TSU officials Wednesday night and university officials said they immediately gathered to address the report.

TSU students said they’ve been hearing that the hazing involved paddling.

“Hazing is probably never going to stop,” said DiDi Chiedu, a TSU freshman. “It’s just embarrassing it’s from the band, you usually get this from frats and sororities. But the band is a respectable organization at our school. It’s ridiculous.”

It’s believed that the alleged hazing only involved one section of the band.

School official said the entire band has been suspended until further notice. The band’s scheduled Thursday night performance against Sam Houston State was canceled.
