SAN ANTONIO -- Another city is blocking the sale of K2, synthetic marijuana. The North Texas community of Mansfield joins a growing list of cities with a ban on the practice.
Police there say it is becoming a serious problem with young people.
"If thirty percent of the consumers of this product are individuals under the age of twenty, something needs to be done in the State of Texas," said Texas A&M's Dr. M. Lavelle Hendricks.
K2 is sprayed on herbs or spices. Currently, there is no federal law blocking the sale of K2 and other synthetic marijuana products.
Texas politicians are drafting legislation for a state-wide ban on K2. If approved, the Lone Star State would join Kentucky and Kansas as the only states with such a law.
K2 is already illegal in three North Texas towns, and a proposed ban is on the table in Houston.
In San Antonio a city public safety committee is studying the problem. If they suggest a ban, it would go to city council for a vote.
