ITALY, Texas (AP) — The Texas Department of Public Safety says an off-duty state trooper who was shot at the home of another off-duty trooper is in stable condition.

DPS spokeswoman Lisa Block says that the preliminary investigation indicates that the other trooper was not involved in the shooting Tuesday.

She says Trooper Clint Schumacher, shot at the home in the North Texas town of Italy, was first transported to a Waxahachie hospital, but later was taken by helicopter to Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas.

Block says the Texas Rangers are investigating. She says DPS will have no more details on Tuesday.
