HOUSTON (AP) — A Houston police officer has been struck by a stray bullet from a robbery several blocks away and investigators want to know who opened fire.

Police on Monday appealed to the public to help find the person who fired the shot that left the officer with a superficial wound. The officer did not require medical assistance after being shot early Sunday. His name hasn't been released.

Police say the officer was involved in a traffic stop about four blocks from where a person was robbed and gunfire broke out. The robbery victim wasn't hurt.

Further details weren't immediately released.
