CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — Police say a station wagon stopped at a late-night driver's license checkpoint in Corpus Christi was full of surprises.

According to a Corpus Christi police statement, the first surprise in the midnight Sunday stop was finding a 14-year-old girl at the wheel of the vehicle. The second was that officers detected what they said was the smell of burning marijuana in the vehicle, and a search turned up marijuana in the pocket of a 12-year-old boy sitting in the front passenger seat.

Police say the boy, who was a reported runaway, was taken to the Nueces County Juvenile Detention Center and accused of possessing marijuana. The driver, along with an 8-year-old girl in the backseat, were delivered to their mother and cited for violating curfew.
