HOUSTON (AP) — Authorities say a Houston police officer shot and killed a one-armed, one-legged man in a wheelchair when he wielded an object that turned out to be a pen.
Houston police spokeswoman Jodi Silva said Saturday that the man in the wheelchair had cornered the officer and was making threats. The shooting took place in a group home whose caretaker had called police and said the man was creating a disturbance.
Silva said the man was making threats and waving "an unknown metal object" that turned out to be a pen. He said the man and the officer were within inches of each other.
The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m.
The name of the victim was not immediately release. Silva said the officer is a five-year veteran of the department.
