AUSTIN -- Inside the Casey design office there sits an empty chair. It belonged to Matt Casey. His death is a mystery.

"Just seeing an empty desk. It happened last night. We found out this morning. We're trying to continue on with normal operations, and it's tough with an empty desk behind us," said Jared Haas, a friend and co-worker of Casey's.

Casey's co-workers say he went out in Austin's entertainment district Sunday night before Labor Day. Around 1:30 in the morning something horrible happened -- exactly what is unclear.  Friends say someone hit Casey in the head.

He died Monday Sept. 10 in University Medical Center Brackenridge. The hospital says it cannot comment on the case.

"We've heard rumors there's videos and pictures of the individuals who did this, but at the time we don't know where we stand. Somebody saw something," said Javier Martin, a friend and co-worker Casey's.

Austin police would only say the cause of death is undetermined. They're waiting for autopsy results to come back from the medical examiner, which are expected Wednesday.

"It's not gonna bring Matt back. Regardless, at least it will give us peace of mind to find the person responsible for it. At some point that person will pay for it," said Martin.

The Travis County Medical Examiner's Office has a hold on a case involving a man named Matt Casey. Austin police asked the medical examiner not to release any details as the investigation into his death is pending.
