HOUSTON (AP) — A small helicopter has crashed near Houston, killing both people aboard.

Witness Jose Escamilla (ehs-kah-MEE'-yah) said the small helicopter was spinning in circles before crashing in flames in a pipeline yard on U.S. 90, about 15 miles northeast of Houston. Escamilla said he and two others ran from the road in the hope of rescuing the man and woman aboard but were too late.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford said the single-engine Robinson R-22 crashed while flying from Baytown to Hooks Memorial Airport, about 17 miles northwest of Houston. No identities have been released.
