AUSTIN -- The University of Texas has ranked among the top 50 schools in the Center for World-Class Universities' 2012 Academic Ranking of World Universities.
UT ranked number 35 on the list and was ranked 5th in the subject category of engineering, technology and computer science.
Other Texas universities which made the top 100 list are the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas at number 48, Rice University at number 91, and Texas A&M University at number 93.
The list was based on the number of alumni and staff members who have won Nobel Prizes and field medals; the number of researchers chosen by Thomson Scientific; the quantity of published articles in journals; the amount of projects indexed in Science Citation Index-Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index; and performance in relation to the university's size.
This isn't the only world universities list UT has made in the past year. The Center for World University Rankings in Saudi Arabia ranked UT at number 30 on its list of top 100 universities in the world. Times Higher Education in the United Kingdom ranks UT 29th in the world.
