GROESBECK, Texas (AP) — A burglary suspect has died after a Central Texas deputy shot him during a struggle while being arrested.

Steven Wayne Thompson died early Friday at a Waco hospital after the 2 p.m. Thursday shooting outside a tire shop in Groesbeck, 90 miles south of Dallas.

Limestone County Sheriff Dennis Wilson says his deputy first tries to use a Taser to subdue the 41-year-old Groesbeck man but resorted to lethal force when Thompson resisted and said he wouldn't be taken alive.

Wilson said the deputy, whom he wouldn't identify, was treated at a Groesbeck hospital for bite wounds and was discharged. Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting.
